How to choose
- Rated current. Size for the load current and the utilization category (AC-21, AC-22, AC-23 for motors).
- Poles. 3P for three-phase loads, 4P when the neutral is isolated, 1P and 2P for single-phase and DC circuits.
- Voltage and AC or DC. DC devices have different ratings and terminal polarity.
- Short-circuit withstand. Check it against the fault level and the upstream fuse or breaker.
- Mounting and operation. Choose DIN-rail, base or door-coupled, and a handle that matches the enclosure.
FAQ
Does a switch disconnector protect against overload?
No. It isolates and switches load current only. Overload and short-circuit protection must come from an upstream fuse or circuit breaker.
Can I use an AC switch disconnector on a DC circuit?
Only if the datasheet gives a DC rating. DC arcs are harder to extinguish, so use a switch-disconnector rated for DC at the circuit voltage.
