How to choose
- Setting range. The motor full-load current should sit inside the adjustable thermal band.
- Breaking capacity at the supply voltage, in kA, against the prospective short-circuit current.
- Thermal-magnetic or magnetic-only. Magnetic-only breakers need a separate overload relay.
- Coordination with the contactor, type 1 or type 2 under IEC 60947-4-1.
- Frame size and mounting: DIN rail or busbar system.
FAQ
What is the difference between an MPCB and an MCCB?
An MPCB is built around motor starting currents, with an adjustable thermal band and a magnetic trip set for inrush. An MCCB is a general feeder breaker with a wider rating scale.
Does an MPCB replace the overload relay?
Yes, when it has a thermal release. Magnetic-only types such as the ABB MO132 do not, so they need an overload relay downstream.
