Schneider Electric GV3L40 TeSys Deca GV3L 40 A Manual Starter and Protector

The Schneider Electric GV3L40 is a TeSys Deca GV3 manual motor circuit breaker with a fixed magnetic trip unit set for a 40 A line current and a 560 A magnetic tripping point. Rated for 690 V AC with EverLink BTR connectors, it delivers a 50 kA breaking capacity at 400/415 V and protects motor branches up to 18.5 kW at 400/415 V without a built-in thermal overload function.

Selection Notes

The L designation identifies this as a magnetic-only trip unit: the 560 A instantaneous point covers short-circuit and locked-rotor protection, but there is no thermal overload element, so pair it with a separate overload relay or a self-protected motor. Breaking capacity is voltage-dependent, from 50 kA at 400/415 V down to 6 kA at 690 V, so on 690 V feeders it should sit behind upstream fault-current limiting. At 40 A it covers motors up to 18.5 kW at 400/415 V; heavier loads call for a higher current variant in the same GV3L range, and the EverLink BTR connectors are rated for the larger cable sizes this frame requires.

Applications

Used as a motor branch disconnector and short-circuit protector ahead of a contactor in TeSys motor starter combinations for medium-power pumps, compressors and conveyor drives.
