This variant combines the RF250R's split antenna design (M8, 4-pin antenna port, ANT-series antenna purchased separately) with an RS232 ASCII/scan-mode interface, so it connects directly to a PC or scanner input instead of a SIMATIC communication module. The 30 m maximum wire length is much shorter than the RS422 version's 1000 m, which puts this reader close to the connected PC. Choose it over the RS422 version when the endpoint is a PC or third-party scanner rather than a SIMATIC module, and keep the RS422 version for longer cable runs back to a communication module.
