Schneider Electric ATS480C79Y Altivar ATS480 790 A 208-690 V 400 kW Soft Starter

The Schneider Electric ATS480C79Y is an Altivar ATS480 soft starter rated for 790 A continuous current in normal duty at 40°C, across the 208-690 V three-phase supply range. Its heavy-duty rating is 660 A, and at 400 V it starts motors up to 400 kW in normal duty (355 kW heavy duty). Torque control (TCS) manages acceleration and deceleration, and Class 10E motor overload protection is built in, with stopping handled by dynamic braking and DC injection.

Selection Notes

The ATS480C79Y is sized for the 400 kW normal-duty / 355 kW heavy-duty motor band at 400 V; pick a lower-current sibling if the motor's continuous demand is below 660 A, or the next size up if it exceeds 790 A in normal duty. Wiring it to the motor delta terminals instead of the supply line lets the same frame handle a larger motor by reducing the current the starter itself carries. Where the application involves high-inertia loads, the built-in dynamic braking and DC injection stop the motor without an external braking resistor.

The ATS480 series starts and stops asynchronous motors in process and infrastructure equipment – pumps, fans, compressors and conveyors – and shares its communication modules, display terminals and remote mounting kit with the Altivar drive range.
