The Siemens 6GK5992-4AL00-8AA0 (MM992-4) is a SCALANCE X media module that adds four 1000 Mbit/s SC optical ports for multimode fiber. Each port covers a link of up to 750 m at 850 nm, giving a switch four independent Gigabit fiber segments from one media module slot. It operates from 0 to 60 degrees C, weighs 0.3 kg, and latches into the media module slot.

The MM992-4 carries four independent 1000 Mbit/s SC ports on one media module, so it fits SCALANCE X switches that need to fan out to four multimode Gigabit fiber runs rather than one. Its 850 nm multimode optics cap the range at 750 m, which suits fiber runs within a building or between nearby cabinets; for longer single-mode spans at the same 1000 Mbit/s rate, the LD single-mode media module in this family is the correct choice instead of this multimode module. Because all four ports sit on one card, a fault on the module takes down all four links together, a factor to weigh against four separate single-port SFPs when link independence matters.
