Selection Notes
The LH designation marks the long-haul tier of the SFP992 family: 1550 nm optics push the range to 8-40 km, above the 30 km ceiling of the LD+ variant, but the 3 dB minimum link attenuation means it needs a minimum fiber loss and is not meant for very short runs. Choose it for inter-site links in the tens-of-kilometers range where the shorter LD/LD+ single-mode SFPs run out of optical budget, and step down to those variants once the link falls under 30 km, since they cost less for the same 1000 Mbit/s bandwidth. For distances beyond 40 km, the LH+ or ELH variant in the same family is required.
