The Siemens 6GK5907-8PA00 KEY-PLUG W780 is a removable data storage medium that activates iPCF, iPCF MC, iREF and iPRP iFeatures on SCALANCE W780/W770 and W740/W730 devices in both access point and client mode. It also stores configuration and application data, so a faulty unit is replaced with a plug swap, and it holds 256 MiB of storage in a 24.3 x 17 x 8.1 mm module.

Pick the W780 KEY-PLUG over the W740 variant when the device needs to run in access point mode: it unlocks iREF alongside iPCF, iPCF MC and iPRP, covering both infrastructure and client roles on the same SCALANCE W780/W770 or W740/W730 hardware. IEC 61406-1:2022 identification-link support lets the module report its own ID electronically for asset tracking, which the client-only W740 KEY-PLUG does not list.
