The Siemens SCALANCE W738-1 M12 (6GK5738-1GY00-0AA0) is an IWLAN client and access point device with one radio card, 2x2 MIMO, and IEEE 802.11a/b/g/h/n support at up to 300 Mbit/s gross data rate over 2.4/5 GHz. It has 2x M12 D-coded Ethernet ports with PoE, 2x N-Connect external antenna ports, redundant M12 24 V DC power, and an IP65 enclosure rated -20 to +60C.

Selection Notes

The two N-Connect external antenna ports and the KEY-PLUG slot let the W738-1 M12 be upgraded to iPCF or iPRP fast-roaming features for mobile applications without swapping hardware - useful on AGVs or monorail systems where the KEY-PLUG for those features is added later. Its IP65 M12 connector set and -20 to +60C rating suit it for mounting directly on moving machine sections rather than inside a control cabinet, unlike RJ45-based SCALANCE W units. Two independent 24 V DC M12 power inputs (16.8-31.2 V range) allow a redundant supply without an external switch, in addition to PoE.

Applications

Used as a wireless client or access point on mobile machine sections - AGVs, cranes, conveyor sections - where an IP-rated enclosure and M12 connectors are needed instead of a cabinet-mounted RJ45 access point.
