The Siemens SCALANCE W722-1 RJ45 (6GK5722-1FC00-0AA0) is an IWLAN client module for wireless connections requiring fast roaming, supporting iPCF and iPCF-MC natively plus iPRP without a KEY-PLUG add-on. It transmits IEEE 802.11a/b/g/h/n at up to 150 Mbps gross data rate through one radio and one R-SMA antenna port, with one 100 Mbit/s RJ45 port and 24V DC supply.

Selection Notes

The W722-1 RJ45 shares its radio hardware and 150 Mbps rate with the W721-1 RJ45 but adds iPCF and iPCF-MC fast client roaming plus iPRP support directly, with no KEY-PLUG required - pick it over the W721-1 RJ45 whenever the client needs to hand over between access points without dropping a real-time connection, for example on a moving vehicle. PROFINET IO diagnosis, absent on the W721-1 RJ45, lets roaming and link status be read from the PLC. For higher throughput, a second antenna port and PoE, use the W734-1 RJ45 instead.

Applications

The W722-1 RJ45 connects a device that moves between wireless cells - an AGV, a conveyor-mounted sensor, or a mobile HMI - where the client must hand over from one access point to the next without interrupting a PROFINET or TCP/IP connection.
