The Siemens SCALANCE XR528-6M (6GK5528-0AR00-2AR2) is a modular Layer 3 managed switch for the 19-inch rack, built around four 1000/10000 Mbit/s SFP+ uplinks and six slots for pluggable 4-port media modules covering electrical, electrical PoE, or optical connections. Front-facing ports simplify cabling in enclosures where cable trays run along the front. It supports up to 180W of PoE budget across the populated modules.

Selection Notes
The 2AR2 variant routes ports through the front of the enclosure, which matters in cabinets where the cable duct and patch panel sit in front of the 19-inch frame rather than behind it - choose the rear-port 2HR2 sibling if cabling enters from the back instead. With Layer 3 integrated (static and dynamic IPv4/IPv6 routing, OSPF, RIP, VRRP) this switch is suited as a distribution-layer node rather than a simple access switch, and the six media-module slots let the PoE/optical mix be configured per port group instead of being fixed at the factory.
Applications
The combination of Layer 3 routing, 10 Gbit/s SFP+ uplinks and PoE-capable media modules fits machine-room or plant-backbone deployments where PROFINET IO devices, IP cameras or wireless access points share the same distribution switch.
