The Siemens 6GK5524-8GS00-2AR2 SCALANCE XR524-8C is a 19-inch rack-mount managed Industrial Ethernet switch powered from 24 V DC, with Layer 3 routing available through a KEY-PLUG XR-500. It has 24x 10/100/1000 Mbit/s RJ45 ports plus 8 combo ports switchable to SFP, hot-swappable interface modules, an error signaling contact, and redundancy protocols such as MRP and RSTP.

Selection Notes
This variant matches the 2AR2's 24 V DC feed, port count, and hazardous-location approvals, but ships as a Layer 2 switch until a KEY-PLUG XR-500 is added to enable static and dynamic IP routing - so it costs less up front for a flat cell that may need routing later. Choose it over the 2AR2 when the routing requirement is not yet confirmed and deferring that spend makes sense; choose the 2AR2 directly when multi-subnet routing is already a known requirement, since the KEY-PLUG is a separate line item either way. Both share the same -40 to +70 °C operating range and 24 W rated power loss.
