The Siemens 6GK5408-0PA00-8AP2 PE408PoE port extender adds eight 10/100/1000 Mbit/s RJ45 ports with PoE according to IEEE 802.3at to a SCALANCE XM-400 managed modular Ethernet switch. Each of the eight ports delivers up to 30 W, for 180 W total, and PoE operation needs a separate power supply connected through the extender's own 2-pole terminal block.

Selection Notes

The 6GK5408-0PA00-8AP2 only adds ports to a SCALANCE XM-400 base unit; it does not switch traffic on its own and needs a chassis with a free extender expansion interface, of which the base unit offers two. Choose it over a non-PoE extender when the added segment must power IP cameras, WLAN access points, or field devices at IEEE 802.3at class 4, up to 30 W per port and 180 W combined. Because PoE draws its own 54 V feed through a separate 2-pole terminal block behind an F 4 A / 60 V fuse, budget that supply independently from the XM-400 chassis' own power design.
