The Siemens PE400-8SFP (6GK5400-8AS00-8AP2) is a hot-swappable port extender that adds 8 SFP ports running at 100/1000 Mbit/s to a SCALANCE XM-400 managed modular Ethernet switch. It mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail or S7-300/S7-1500 rail and draws its power from the base switch through 2 extender interfaces, weighing 0.6 kg.

Selection Notes
This is the fiber (SFP) version of the XM-400 port extender; the PE408 sibling adds 8 copper RJ45 ports instead. Pick the PE400-8SFP when the run to the field device is fiber, for distance or interference reasons, and pick the PE408 for copper drops. Both extenders share the same base-switch power draw and 2-interface expansion connection, so port media is the only real selection factor between them.
