The Siemens 6GK5324-8TS00-2AC2 SCALANCE XC316-8 is a managed Layer 2 Industrial Ethernet switch in a compact, fanless DIN-rail housing, with 16 electrical 10/100/1000 Mbit/s RJ45 ports and 8 SFP+ slots supporting 1 or 10 Gbit/s modules. It runs from a 24 V DC supply, supports MRP ring redundancy with PRP/HSR network access redundancy, and meets PROFINET conformity class B.

This is the fixed Layer 2 model in the 16x RJ45 + 8x SFP+ compact-housing family; a Layer-3-upgradeable sibling with NETCONF automation exists for sites that need routing or infrastructure-as-code from the same physical unit. Choose this XC316-8 where VXLAN tunneling (RFC 7348), PRP/HSR redundancy, and DHCP server functions cover the requirement, since the Layer 3 upgrade license adds cost this model doesn't carry. The 8 SFP+ slots take either 1 Gbit/s or 10 Gbit/s modules, so uplink speed is set by transceiver choice rather than switch variant.
