The Siemens 6GK5008-0BA10-1AB2 SCALANCE XB008 is an unmanaged industrial Ethernet switch with 8x 10/100 Mbit/s RJ45 ports, powered from 24V DC or AC (19.2 to 28.8 V) at up to 0.12A, and rated IP20 for DIN-rail or wall mounting. It meets PROFINET conformity class A and supports Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) for redundant network paths.

Selection Notes

As an unmanaged switch, the XB008 has no IP configuration, VLANs, or web interface - it is a plug-and-forward Layer 2 device, which is the right choice when the network topology doesn't need managed diagnostics or traffic segmentation at this node. Despite being unmanaged, it still supports Parallel Redundancy Protocol and CoS prioritization, so PROFINET real-time traffic can be kept ahead of best-effort traffic on the same port even without a management interface. The ATEX, UKEX, IECEx, ULhazloc, and CCC-Ex approvals extend its use into Zone 2/Div 2 hazardous-location panels, which an equivalent commercial-grade unmanaged switch would not carry.

Applications

Entry-level star or line-topology expansion at the edge of a PROFINET or industrial Ethernet network - machine cells, remote I/O drops, and panels in Zone 2/Div 2 hazardous locations where PRP redundancy is required but full switch management is not.
