- Description
The Schneider Electric LUCL05B is a TeSys Ultra magnetic control unit that plugs into an LUB12, LUB32, or LUB38 power base to form a TeSys U starter-controller for 3-phase motors up to 1.5 kW at 400 V. It covers an adjustable rated current In of 1.25-5 A and provides short-circuit protection only, tripping at 14.2 x In, for use downstream of a motor drive or soft starter that already handles overload protection.

Selection Notes
Unlike the LUCB advanced control units, the LUCL05B drops thermal overload protection entirely and only handles short-circuit tripping, because it is meant to sit behind a variable speed drive or soft starter that already protects the motor from overload. Pick the LUCL12BL sibling instead if the motor current exceeds 5 A, or an LUCB unit if the installation needs standalone overload protection without an external drive.
Applications
TeSys U starter-controllers paired with a variable speed drive or soft starter for 3-phase motors up to 1.5 kW at 400 V, where the drive's own overload algorithm makes a second thermal relay redundant.
