Modbus RTU over RS-485 lets the D1M 20 Modbus report into an existing serial bus rather than requiring an Ethernet drop, while its Class 0.5 accuracy stays tighter than a Class 1 multimeter for sub-billing use. The 1 A / 5 A dual current range and 1-phase/3-phase switching match the same panel sizes as the rest of this power-meter range. Choose the Ethernet TCP/IP variant instead when the installation already has network wiring to the panel.
