- Description
The ABB 2CTB812052R1500 (OVR PV T1-T2 5-1500 C QS) is a combined Type 1+2 surge protective device for 1500 V DC photovoltaic strings, supplied as the plug-in protection cartridge (C) for the QS base. It discharges up to 40 kA (8/20 µs) with a 5 kV voltage protection level across 2 protected poles, safeguarding higher-voltage PV strings against lightning-induced DC surges.

Selection Notes
This 1500 V-rated cartridge steps up from the 1000 V part to match higher-voltage PV string architectures common on utility-scale arrays, where stringing more modules per string reduces balance-of-system cabling costs. The 5 kV protection level, against 3.8 kV on the 1000 V-rated cartridge, reflects the higher system voltage it must withstand without breaking down. As the 'C' cartridge, it drops into an existing QS base once the original module reaches end-of-life, without rewiring the base terminals.
