The ABB 1SAP370901R0101 (CM579-PNIO-XC) communication module turns an AC500-XC PLC into a PROFINET IO RT controller, scanning PROFINET IO devices over two switched Ethernet ports at up to 100 Mbit/s. It runs the real-time PROFINET controller role, not the device role at the other end of the link. Degree of protection is IP20.

This module makes the AC500-XC the PROFINET controller that scans the IO devices on the line; when the AC500-XC instead needs to be the device being scanned by someone else's PROFINET controller, use the CM589-PNIO-XC module. Both run the same 2-port switched Ethernet hardware at 100 Mbit/s, so the choice between them is purely about which end of the PROFINET relationship the CPU occupies.
