The ABB 1SAP187300R0203 (TA5142-RS485W) is an AC500-eCo serial adapter option board that adds a non-isolated RS485 port to the CPU. It plugs into the eCo CPU's option slot with spring terminals fitted, giving the controller a Modbus RTU or custom RS485 link for installations contained within a single, common-earth enclosure.

Without galvanic isolation, this board costs less than the isolated version but should stay on a bus that shares a common ground with the CPU, typically a single-enclosure installation. Choose the isolated RS485 board instead when the bus spans separate enclosures or ground potentials, or the RS232 board for a point-to-point link rather than a multi-drop network.
