The ABB 1SAP187300R0201 (TA5141-RS232IW) is an AC500-eCo serial adapter option board that adds a galvanically isolated RS232 port to the CPU. It plugs into the eCo CPU's option slot and ships with spring terminals fitted, giving the controller a point-to-point serial link to third-party instruments or modems without exposing the CPU's logic ground to the external device.

Galvanic isolation on this RS232 port protects the CPU from ground-potential differences when the connected serial device sits on separate wiring, which matters where the instrument and the PLC are not on a common earth. Pick an RS485 variant instead for multi-drop serial networks or longer cable runs, or the non-isolated board when isolation is not required and lower cost matters more.
