The ABB 1SAP176000R0080 (CM5640-2ETH) is an AC500 communication module with 2 Ethernet interfaces supporting TCP/IP, UDP and Modbus TCP at up to 100 Mbit/s. It plugs into the CPU's expansion bus and adds Ethernet-based connectivity for SCADA or PLC-to-PLC links without routing traffic through the CPU's own network port entirely.

Selection Notes

Two Ethernet ports without an internal switch means each port is a separate network interface rather than a daisy-chain pair, so a device plugged into one port does not automatically reach the other. Modbus TCP support covers most SCADA integrations directly; choose the RS232/RS485 communication module instead when the upstream system only speaks serial Modbus RTU.
