The ABB 1SAP176000R0020 (CM5610-2RS) is an AC500 communication module with 2 serial interfaces that can each be configured as RS232 or RS485, running a selectable protocol at up to 187.5 kbit/s. It plugs into the AC500 CPU's expansion bus to add serial connectivity for Modbus or custom protocol links beyond the CPU's onboard ports.

Selection Notes

Two independently configurable RS232/RS485 ports let one module serve either a point-to-point link and a multi-drop bus, or two multi-drop buses, without needing separate single-port modules. The 187.5 kbit/s ceiling covers standard Modbus RTU baud rates comfortably; pick an Ethernet-based communication module instead when the link needs TCP/IP rather than serial.
