The "F" in this control unit's designation is the deciding factor over a base CU240E-2 PN: it adds STO, SS1, SLS, SSM and SDI Safety Integrated functions and up to 3 fail-safe digital inputs, so specify it when the drive itself must implement a safety function (e.g. safely limited speed for a guard door) rather than relying on an external safety relay. It ships without a Power Module - it must be paired with a compatible SINAMICS G120 power stage sized to the motor. Sensorless vector and encoderless torque control cover most general-purpose applications without an encoder feedback cable; if closed-loop encoder feedback is required, a different CU240E-2 variant with an encoder interface is needed.
