The Ex I restriction is the deciding spec here: this connector is only approved for PROFIBUS devices certified to explosion protection group I for mining and firedamp atmospheres, so verify the mating device's Ex marking before use rather than substituting a general-purpose DP connector. Its built-in, connectible passive RS485-IS bus termination lets it serve as a segment-end connector on an intrinsically safe network without a separate terminator module. The 1.5 Mbaud ceiling is lower than a standard DP connector's 12 Mbit/s, a consequence of the RS485-IS intrinsically safe interface it terminates.
