The Siemens 6ES7963-1AA10-0AA0 is the IF963-RS232 interface module for the SIMATIC S7-400 CP441, adding an RS232 physical layer for point-to-point coupling. It runs at up to 115.2 kbit/s over cable runs up to 15 m and draws just 15 mA at 0.05 W typical power loss. The module snaps onto the CP441 to give it a standard serial port.

Pick IF963-RS232 for short serial runs (up to 15 m) to devices that only speak standard RS232 at up to 115.2 kbit/s. For longer distances the IF963-TTY (20 mA current loop, up to 1000 m at lower speed) or IF963-X27 (RS422/RS485, up to 1200 m at the same 115.2 kbit/s) mount on the same CP441 socket and trade cable reach against wiring type.
