Selection Notes
The FM 455S puts 16 closed-loop control channels and mixed analog/digital I/O on a single module, so PID-type loop math for step-and-pulse actuators runs on the module instead of the S7-400 CPU cycle. That matters when a rack already carries several FMs or CPs and CPU load is a constraint. Choose the Pt100 / 4-wire configuration (8 channels) for resistance-thermometer loops needing higher accuracy, or the thermocouple / 2-wire configuration (16 channels) when channel count matters more than per-channel precision.
Applications
Fits temperature or pressure closed-loop control in process and utility cabinets built around an S7-400 rack, where 16 DI and 32 DO on the same module also handle interlocks and actuator feedback without a separate digital I/O card.
