Wiring each input pair a.x/b.x as a single 1oo2 dual-channel circuit reaches the full SIL 3 / PL e rating; leaving channels as independent 1oo1 inputs caps the achievable class at SIL 2 / PL d, so the wiring choice - not a different SKU - decides the safety level on this module. One 16-input module can therefore serve either 16 independent single-channel sensors or 8 redundant safety circuits, versus buying two smaller fail-safe modules for a mixed application.
