The AC/DC/relay power supply variant (85-264 V AC) suits installations already wired for line voltage without a separate 24 V DC power supply, unlike the DC/DC/DC CPU 1211C that needs a 24 V DC source. Relay outputs switch both AC and DC loads up to 2 A directly, so it drives small contactors or indicator lamps without an added output module, at the cost of a slower 10 ms max output delay compared to a DC/DC/DC CPU's transistor outputs. With 75 kbyte of work memory and room for 3 communication modules plus 1 signal board, it fits small standalone machines rather than applications needing distributed I/O racks; for those, a CPU 1214C or 1215C with more memory is the better starting point.
