The Schneider Electric XPSMCMDI1600 is a Modicon MCM safe input expansion module with 16 isolated digital safety inputs and 4 PNP test outputs, wired through captive screw-clamp terminals at 24 V DC. It connects to an XPSMCM safety controller over the backplane expansion bus to add input capacity and cannot operate stand-alone. Each input has configurable filtering and delay for functions such as emergency stop and guard monitoring.

The XPSMCMDI1600 adds 16 isolated safe digital inputs to an XPSMCM controller over the backplane bus; it expands an existing Modicon MCM safety controller CPU and cannot run stand-alone. Pick this module over the 8-input variant when a cell has more than 8 separate safety-input devices to wire into one module slot, or the 12-input safety-mat variant when those inputs are specifically 4-wire safety mats. Isolated inputs keep each sensor's return path independent, which simplifies fault tracing on a module carrying this many field connections, and the 2 node-address LEDs on the front face confirm backplane addressing at a glance during commissioning.
