Schneider Electric XPSMCMCO0000EM Modicon MCM Modbus TCP/IP Diagnostic Expansion Module Safety PLC

The Schneider Electric XPSMCMCO0000EM is a Modicon MCM non-safe communication module that adds a Modbus TCP/IP connection, via an RJ45 connector, to an XPSMCM safety controller for remote diagnostics. It connects over the backplane expansion connector and cannot operate stand-alone, running at 10/100 Mbit/s over a maximum 100 m cable segment without an additional gateway.

Selection Notes

The XPSMCMCO0000EM is a non-safe diagnostic module: it reports the connected XPSMCM safety controller's status over Modbus TCP/IP for remote monitoring but carries none of the safety function itself, expanding an existing Modicon MCM safety controller CPU and unable to run stand-alone. Choose it over the CANopen, EtherCAT or EtherNet/IP diagnostic variants when the plant's SCADA or PLC network speaks Modbus TCP/IP, or choose the RS485 safe communication module instead when the link needs safe communication rather than non-safe diagnostics.

Applications

The XPSMCMCO0000EM fits cells where the SCADA or historian layer already polls plant equipment over Modbus TCP/IP, letting that same system pick up the safety controller's run/error status without a dedicated diagnostic connection. As with the other diagnostic modules in the range, it reports status only and carries none of the controller's own safety function, and its NET/STS status LEDs give a local read-out even when the Modbus connection is not being actively monitored.
