Schneider Electric XPSMCMCO0000EI Modicon MCM EtherNet/IP Diagnostic Expansion Module Safety PLC

The Schneider Electric XPSMCMCO0000EI is a Modicon MCM non-safe communication module that adds an EtherNet/IP connection, via an RJ45 connector, to an XPSMCM safety controller for remote diagnostics. It connects over the backplane expansion connector and cannot operate stand-alone, running at 10/100 Mbit/s over a maximum 100 m cable segment without an additional gateway.

Selection Notes

The XPSMCMCO0000EI is a non-safe diagnostic module: it reports the connected XPSMCM safety controller's status over EtherNet/IP for remote monitoring but carries none of the safety function itself, expanding an existing Modicon MCM safety controller CPU and unable to run stand-alone. Choose it over the CANopen, EtherCAT or Modbus TCP/IP diagnostic variants when the plant's automation network is EtherNet/IP, or choose the RS485 safe communication module instead when the link needs safe communication rather than non-safe diagnostics.

Applications

The XPSMCMCO0000EI fits cells already running EtherNet/IP for PLC and drive communication, letting the plant's existing SCADA or MES layer pick up the safety controller's status over the same network instead of a separate diagnostic link. The module carries no safety-rated traffic itself, so a network fault on its side cannot interrupt the controller's own safety outputs, and the front-face LEDs still show connection state locally if the network link drops.
