Schneider Electric XPSMCMCO0000CO Modicon MCM CANopen Diagnostic Expansion Module Screw Terminals Safety PLC

The Schneider Electric XPSMCMCO0000CO is a Modicon MCM non-safe communication module that adds one CANopen port, via a male Sub-D 9 connector, to an XPSMCM safety controller for remote diagnostics. It connects over the backplane expansion connector and cannot operate stand-alone, reporting controller status to a CANopen network at rates from 10 kbit/s to 1 Mbit/s without an additional gateway.

Selection Notes

The XPSMCMCO0000CO is a non-safe diagnostic module: it reports the connected XPSMCM safety controller's status over CANopen for remote monitoring but carries none of the safety function itself, so it expands an existing Modicon MCM safety controller CPU and cannot run stand-alone. Choose it over the EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP/IP diagnostic variants when the plant's existing fieldbus is CANopen, or choose the RS485 safe communication module instead when the link needs to carry safe communication rather than non-safe diagnostics.

Applications

The XPSMCMCO0000CO fits cells where a plant-wide CANopen SCADA or PLC network already polls other field devices, letting the same network pick up the safety controller's run/error status alongside drive and I/O diagnostics instead of running a separate monitoring cable back to the control room. The module relays status only and plays no part in the controller's own safety decision.
