  • Description

The Schneider Electric BMECRA31210 is a Modicon X80 Ethernet remote I/O (RIO) drop adapter for Modicon M580 distributed architectures. It provides 3 ports — 2 for the Ethernet RIO ring network and 1 service port — over EtherNet/IP, and the drop it heads can support up to 1024 discrete and 256 analog local I/O channels, all within an IP20 enclosure.

Selection Notes

Choose the BMECRA31210 when extending a Modicon M580 distributed architecture with a dedicated Ethernet remote I/O drop — its 2-port ring interface plus 1 service port lets the drop join an RSTP ring topology, so a single cable fault does not take the station off-line. The adapter's 1024 discrete / 256 analog I/O ceiling sets the limit for how many local X80 modules the drop can host, so rack population should be planned against that figure rather than the M580 processor's own local I/O budget. Diagnostics run over Modbus TCP, letting maintenance staff query module status on the drop without touching the processor's service port.
