The Siemens 6GK5778-1GY00-0TA0 SCALANCE W778-1 M12 EEC is an IWLAN access point built for expanded environmental conditions, with a single 802.11n radio at up to 300 Mbit/s gross, N-Connect antenna ports, M12 PoE Ethernet, and conformal coating for a -40 to +75 degrees C operating range. It runs from 16.8-31.2 V DC or Power-over-Ethernet, carries an IP65 enclosure, and adds railway EN 50155 and FM Class I Division 2 approvals.

Selection Notes

The -40 to +75 degrees C range and conformal coating are what separate this EEC variant from the standard W778-1 M12 - both matter on rolling stock or outdoor gantries with condensation or wide seasonal swings. EN 50155 and EN 45545-2 fire-protection certification make it the variant to specify for rail vehicle installations; the standard M12 model does not carry those. FM 3611 Class I Division 2 and the same 300 Mbit/s 802.11n radio carry over unchanged from the base model, so throughput and hazardous-area suitability are identical. Choose the standard W778-1 M12 instead for fixed indoor cabinets where the coating and extended range add cost without a use case.
