Choose the front-port version when cabinet cabling needs to stay accessible from the front, matching typical rack layouts where rear access is limited. With Layer 3 prepared rather than integrated, IP routing (RIPv2, OSPFv2, VRRP) only becomes active after a KEY-PLUG XR-500 module is purchased and installed — the Layer-3-integrated variant of this switch is the direct choice instead if routing must work from day one without that extra license. The 4x SFP+ uplinks handle 10 Gbit/s backbone links while the 12 media-module ports carry PoE loads up to 30 W each toward cameras or wireless access points on the access side.
