The Siemens 6GK5428-4TR00-2AC2 SCALANCE XC424-4 is a managed Layer 3 Industrial Ethernet switch with 24x 10/100/1000 Mbit/s RJ45 ports and 4x SFP+ ports usable at 1 or 10 Gbit/s. It is a PROFINET IO device with integrated static and dynamic IP routing, redundancy protocols, VLAN, and an error signaling contact with select/set button.

Selection Notes

The XC424-4 carries the same base-unit Layer 3 routing (RIPv2, OSPFv2, VRRP) and HSR/PRP redundancy as the XC416-8, but trades 4 of the SFP+ slots for 8 extra RJ45 ports, so it suits an access-layer cell with more copper-connected field devices than fiber runs. Choose it over the XC416-8 when edge-port count matters more than uplink fiber headroom, and over the XC432 when even a small amount of 10 Gbit/s fiber uplink capacity is needed. With only 4 SFP+ ports, reserve them for the ring or backbone uplink and route the rest of the cell over the 24 fixed RJ45 ports.
