The front-port layout suits cabinets with front-only cable access, and Layer 3 routing is already integrated here — static and dynamic IP routing with RIPv2, OSPFv2 and VRRP work without adding a separate KEY-PLUG XR-500 license, unlike the Layer-3-prepared variant of this switch. That makes it the direct choice where the switch itself needs to route between VLANs or subnets at the aggregation layer rather than just switch. The 4x SFP+ ports still carry the 10 Gbit/s uplinks while the 12 media-module ports supply up to 180 W of PoE.
