The Siemens SCALANCE XR528-6M (6GK5528-0AR00-2HR2) is a modular Layer 3 managed switch for the 19-inch rack, built around four 1000/10000 Mbit/s SFP+ uplinks and six slots for pluggable 4-port media modules covering electrical, electrical PoE, or optical connections. Rear-facing ports keep the front panel clear for cabinets where cabling enters from behind. It supports up to 180W of PoE budget across the populated modules.

Selection Notes

The 2HR2 variant routes ports through the rear of the enclosure, which matters in cabinets where the patch panel and cable duct sit behind the 19-inch frame - choose the front-port 2AR2 sibling if cabling enters from the front instead. With Layer 3 integrated (static and dynamic IPv4/IPv6 routing, OSPF, RIP, VRRP) this switch is suited as a distribution-layer node rather than a simple access switch, and the six media-module slots let the PoE/optical mix be configured per port group instead of being fixed at the factory.

Applications
