The Siemens 6ES7223-7AF50-0XB0 is a SIMATIC S7-1200 SB 1223 signal board adding 4 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs at 5 V DC with switching frequencies up to 200 kHz, for use where the CPU's onboard IO is not fast enough for pulse counting or high-speed pulse output. It plugs directly onto the front of the CPU without consuming a mounting slot.

The 200 kHz switching frequency is what separates this board from the standard SB 1222/1221 signal boards: the CPU's onboard fast inputs top out lower, so this board is the choice when the application needs a high-speed counter or pulse-train output and there is no free CB/SM slot for a full IO module. The 0.1 A output rating keeps it limited to driving small relays, opto-couplers, or logic-level loads rather than field actuators directly.
