- Description
The Siemens CPU 412-2 (6ES7412-2XK07-0AB0) is a SIMATIC S7-400 central processing unit with 1 MB of work memory, split 512 KB for program and 512 KB for data, plus two integrated interfaces: a combined MPI/DP port and a dedicated PROFIBUS DP port, each running at up to 12 Mbit/s. It takes one rack slot and runs bit and word instructions in 31.25 ns typical.

Selection Notes
The second, dedicated PROFIBUS DP interface is the practical difference from the single-interface variant: it lets the CPU run a field network on port two while keeping MPI free for programming and HMI traffic on port one, so both connections are live at the same time instead of shared over one port. Doubled work memory, 1 MB against 512 KB, and a 6000-entry DB range instead of 3000 give more headroom for larger programs. Backplane current draw rises only slightly, 0.9 A typical versus 0.7 A, so the extra interface does not demand a bigger power supply in most single-rack layouts.
