Up to 8 units per CPU and 118 simultaneous open-communication or S7 connections make the CP 1543-1 suited to S7-1500 stations that need many parallel Ethernet links, well beyond what the CP 1243-1 supports on an S7-1200. It does not carry DNP3 or IEC 60870-5 telecontrol protocols, so it is the choice for standard plant TCP/IP networking and VPN-secured segmentation rather than substation telecontrol reporting.
