Selection Notes

The 32-device DP master capacity and 512-byte total input/output address range size this module for a full-scale PROFIBUS segment feeding an S7-1200, rather than a handful of drives - for a single VFD or simple slave device, PROFIBUS wiring overhead may not be worth it versus PROFINET. Up to 3 CM 1243-5 modules can be added per CPU, useful when migrating an existing PROFIBUS plant floor onto an S7-1200 without re-cabling every DP slave to Ethernet. The RS485 Sub-D interface and DPV1 support match standard third-party PROFIBUS DP slave devices without protocol conversion.

Applications

Used to integrate an S7-1200 CPU into an existing PROFIBUS DP network as master, connecting legacy drives, remote I/O, or third-party DP slave devices during brownfield migrations.
