The Siemens 6GK1561-2AA00 CP 5612 is a PCI communications processor card that connects a PG or PC with a PCI bus to PROFIBUS or MPI at 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s, supported on both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. It draws power from the backplane bus (3.3 V at 0.15 A, 12 V at 0.25 A) and presents a single 9-pin Sub-D RS 485 port.

The PCI backplane connection fits older or existing PC hardware that has a PCI slot rather than PCI Express, which is the deciding factor against the CP 5622 since both cards offer the same 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s PROFIBUS range and single RS 485 port. Its 64-device DP master limit and 8 S7/PG connections suit engineering and diagnostic workstations rather than a production master handling more than 100 DP slaves, where the CP 5623 applies. SOFTNET-PB DP software is required and is not bundled with the card.

Connecting an engineering PG or PC with a PCI slot to a PROFIBUS DP or MPI network for programming, diagnostics, or a DP master function within the 64-device limit.
