The Siemens SCALANCE XB108-2 6GK5108-2BD00-2AB2 is an unmanaged Ethernet switch for small star and line topologies, pairing 8x 10/100 Mbit/s RJ45 ports with 2x 100 Mbit/s SC multimode fiber ports. Both fiber ports run 100BaseFX transmission. A redundant 24 V AC/DC supply, PROFINET Class A support, and an IP20 enclosure round out the design.

Selection Notes

Choose the SC-connector version when new fiber runs are being terminated, since SC's push-pull keyed housing is faster to mate and less prone to misalignment than the older ST(BFOC) bayonet style used on the sibling XB108-2 variant. Port count and electrical specs are otherwise identical, so swapping between the two comes down to which connector the plant's fiber patch panels already use. The ATEX, UKEX, IECEx, and FM approvals cover Zone 2/22 hazardous-location cabinets where the standard XC124 desktop switch isn't rated.
