The rear-port layout suits cabinets wired from behind, and Layer 3 routing is already integrated — static and dynamic IP routing with RIPv2, OSPFv2 and VRRP work without a separate KEY-PLUG XR-500 license, unlike the Layer-3-prepared variant of this switch. That makes it the direct choice where the switch must route between VLANs or subnets at the aggregation layer instead of only switching. The 4x SFP+ ports carry the 10 Gbit/s uplinks while the 12 media-module ports deliver up to 180 W of PoE to field devices.
