The Siemens 6GK5424-8TR00-2AC2 SCALANCE XC416-8 is a managed Layer 3 Industrial Ethernet switch with 16x 10/100/1000 Mbit/s RJ45 ports and 8x SFP+ ports usable at 1 or 10 Gbit/s. It is a PROFINET IO device with integrated static and dynamic IP routing, redundancy protocols, VLAN, and an error signaling contact with select/set button.

The XC416-8 puts Layer 3 routing (RIPv2, OSPFv2, VRRP) and HSR/PRP high-availability redundancy on the base unit with no KEY-PLUG required, so it fits a segmented, multi-subnet line that needs routing between cells from day one. Eight SFP+ ports running at 1 or 10 Gbit/s give it a fiber-heavy uplink budget compared with the RJ45-only XC432, which suits a backbone switch aggregating several access-layer cells over fiber. Against the 24-port XC424-4, its 16 RJ45 + 8 SFP+ split trades edge-port count for more fiber headroom - pick the XC424-4 instead when the cell has more copper-connected devices than fiber runs.
