The Siemens SCALANCE XCM328 (6GK5328-4TS01-2AC2) is a compact, fanless, DIN-rail managed Layer 2 industrial Ethernet switch with a Layer 3 upgrade license option, 24 Gigabit 10/100/1000 Mbit/s RJ45 ports, and 4 SFP+ slots for 1 or 10 Gbit/s uplinks. It runs from a redundant 24 V DC supply and supports PROFINET IO diagnostics, RADIUS authentication, and IEEE 1588 v2 time synchronization.

Selection Notes

The XCM328 ships with the same compact fanless DIN-rail body and 24x Gigabit plus 4x SFP+ port count as the XC324-4, but adds a Layer 3 upgrade license path, RADIUS-based port authentication, and IEEE 1588 v2 transparent clock forwarding for time-critical automation and railway EN 50121-4/EN 50125-3 applications. Its default redundancy protocol set is narrower than the fixed-Layer-2 sibling, MRP, STP/RSTP/MSTP and LACP rather than PRP, HSR or MRP-I, and Telnet management is not offered, so it fits when routing headroom and authenticated access matter more than the widest redundancy protocol list. Pick the conformal-coated version of this same switch for condensing or corrosive environments, or the fixed XC324-4 if Layer 3 routing will never be needed.
