- Description
The Siemens 6GK5208-0GA00-2AC2 SCALANCE XC208G is a managed Layer 2 Industrial Ethernet switch with eight 10/100/1000 Mbit/s RJ45 ports, IEEE 1588v2 PTP time synchronization, and a -40 ... +70 °C operating range. All eight ports run at full gigabit speed, which the smaller XC206 series does not offer on its copper ports.

Selection Notes
Specify the XC208G over the XC206 series when the segment needs more than six ports or when every port must run at full gigabit speed rather than 10/100 Mbit/s — motion-heavy PROFINET lines and applications combining PLC, drive, and camera traffic on one switch benefit most from the extra bandwidth and the 10240-byte jumbo frame support. IEEE 1588v2 PTP support is the other differentiator: pick this switch specifically where devices downstream need a synchronized time base, such as coordinated motion or event-correlated diagnostics across multiple controllers.
Applications
Gigabit backbone switching for PROFINET cells combining PLCs, drives, and vision or camera traffic, and networks requiring IEEE 1588v2 time synchronization across controllers.
